#JobAdviceSA 20/06 – Advice For When You Have Found A Job

Since we relaunched #JobAdviceSA three weeks ago we have been inundated with questions, not only from jobseekers looking for advice to search and apply for jobs, but also from employed South Africans looking for advice on employment issues.

So, as we are here to serve the needs of the community, today on #JobAdviceSA we will answer these questions and others related to being employed (thanks to Menzi Ngcobo @MrMenziN and Refilwe Setlhodi @ReFeeLweH for suggesting questions)

Just as a reminder, the normal format of the chat is that there are four questions and 15 minutes to answer each one, so the first question is at 16h00, the second question at 16h15, etc. The questions are numbered Q1, Q2, etc. so when you answer don’t forget to begin your tweet with A1, A2, etc so we know which question you are answering!

Most importantly, don’t forget to tweet your answers, and any other questions you have, to @JobAdviceSA and/or using the hashtag #JobAdviceSA

Here are today’s questions:

Q1. What is the difference between the various types of employment contracts, i.e. fixed, permanent and temporary contracts?

Q2. What is the difference between gross and net salary, guaranteed total package and total cost-to-company (CTC)?

Q3. What can you do if you feel that you are being mistreated or have been unfairly dismissed by your employer?

Q4. How do you resign from a job and what are valid reasons to do so?

We look forward to chatting with you today on Twitter at 16h00!
